FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Acupuncture is extremely safe. It is an all natural, drug free therapy, with no side effects except feelings of relaxation and well being.

What About the Needles?

Acupuncture needles are sterile, used once, and discarded. The needles are about the thickness of 2 human hairs.

Does it Hurt?

The sensation ranges from not feeling anything to feeling like a bee sting.

How many Treatments will it take?

That depends on several factors; severity of the condition and the length of time you've had this condition, but typically it takes 3-8 treatments to clear up a condition.

How frequently do I need to come to benefit from treatment?
Following the initial consultation, ideally you will be seen in weekly one-hour sessions for 6-8 visits. During this time, significant signs of progress will likely appear. As patients experience improvement in their condition and enjoy a greater sense of ease in life, treatments may be extended to every other week, every three weeks, monthly and eventually seasonally. The frequency of treatments varies with each individual.  Strict adherence to patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

How it works.....
Chinese philosophy teaches that life energy, called Qi (pronounced chee), flows throughout the body in pathways called meridians. Qi helps to animate the body and protect it from illness, pain, and disease. When the Qi in the body is abundant, of good quality and flowing freely, a person is healthy. When the Qi is weak or obstructed a person becomes susceptible to disease. The symptoms of disease can manifest not only within the physical body, but also in mental clarity, enthusiasm for life, and sense of purpose.  Acupuncture is a means of assessing the condition of the life energy and restoring its proper balance. With the gentle insertion of needles and the use of moxa, at specific points along the pathways Chi is brought where it is needed and dispersed from blocked and congested areas. This helps to restore harmony at the deepest level of the body, mind, and spirit. Symptoms often resolve and patients frequently experience deep personal transformation. Pain and disease, whether physical, mental, or emotional, result from an imbalance of life energy. When a Classical Acupuncturist treats the underlying imbalance, pain and disease are alleviated

Do I have to be ill to benefit from acupuncture?

Acupuncture was originally developed as a way to maintain good health and well-being, not just to heal illnesses. Many patients come for regular treatments to achieve increased effectiveness and enjoyment at work. Many others come to help deepen their relationships with others. Acupuncture is also a powerful preventative measure to keep patients healthy throughout the year

Why would I see an acupuncturist?

Many patients begin acupuncture treatment to find relief from a wide range of physical conditions. What often begins as a concern over several symptoms often transforms into deep personal healing that reaches far beyond the physical condition. The greatest reason to begin acupuncture treatment is to recover the tremendous healing power of your body. Acupuncture awakens the senses and offers the possibility of deep healing of the body, mind and spirit. Many patients experience

  • Increased clarity,

  • Creativity and deeper meaning in their day-to-day lives

  • Are sick less often and recover more quickly

  • Experience significant improvement or complete disappearance of symptoms

  • Have increased vitality and stamina

  • Spend less money for long-term health care costs

  • Have more harmonious relationships with others

What is Moxa?

Moxa is an herb (Artemesia Vulgaris Latiflora) that is rolled into a small cone and burned on an acupuncture point to gently warm the energy. Done before needling, it enhances the movement of energy.
